home remedies for cough?

OK blogosphere, I'm sending this out to you: got any home remedies for cough? I've tried tea with honey, I'd like to try buckwheat honey but they don't sell it around here, and I can't drink Throat Coat tea. Other suggestions? My only other option has been Tylenol with Codeine and I can't take that during the day as it turns me into the living dead. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. I've heard that honey with fresh-squeezed lemon juice is supposed to help, but I haven't tried it myself.
Be sure to post if you find something. DJ had a really bad cough a few weeks ago–to the point that he was having trouble sleeping–and since you're not supposed to give toddlers anything, we were kinda just up the creek for a while.
I gave him some straight honey, but I'm not sure if it helped or if by the time we tried it, the cough was already going away. He liked it though. (-:

  2. My doctor said once that all over-the-counter cough medicines are pretty much sugar water except for Delsym. And it was only slightly better than sugar water. I know that's not a “home” remedy, but it's all I's gots!

  3. Yeah, I've tried Tussin DM and it's worthless for me. Historically (since I was 4 years old), the only cough syrup that's done anything has been Phenergan with Codeine. Hard to take codeine during the day and be any sort of worthwhile parent, though!
